Cloud Help, Create an Instance from Scratch

Basically we just chain specific things together in order to create an instance.
First you create the Volume following the Create Volume directions. But, basically it is VOLUMES, CREATE VOLUMES, select the Image, select the size in GB and select CEPH. Unless instructed to use something else, do NOT use anything else but CEPH to deploy the instance to. Click CREATE and after about 2 seconds your hard drive is available and ready.
From there you go to menu INSTANCES -> LAUNCH INSTANCE
The Launch new instance screen appears with a lot of fields to fill in, so lets go this through quickly.
1: Name, just enter a name for your instance

2: The source. We are always booting from Volume , so you select volume and then click on the  ‘+’  next to the volume you want to boot from.

3: The Flavors. You can scroll down and select the flavor you want the instance to have or you can filter by specific criteria by clicking on the FILTERS field and selecting, vCPUS  and enter 4, you will see only flavors that have 4 Cores in them.

4: Networks, select the network you want this machine to connect to. You can select multiple networks if you have more than one for multi network connectivity.

5: Network Ports, network ports are manually defined Mac address and IP addresses so that the same MAC address and IP are always set in case you need it. This setup requires a little bit more skill at this point 🙂

6: Security Groups, select which ports are basically open for your instance.

7: KeyPair, you have to add a SSH public Key pair into each instance, INCLUDING Windows instances. This pair is used to recover an admin password for Windows instances, not to log in.

8: You can ignore the rest unless you really know what you are doing. Just click on Launch and your instance wills tart to build and spawn

9: When your instance is running and you need /Want to access it from the outside world, you can associate a floating IP b clicking the little drop down menu in the end and selecting ASSOCIATE FLOATING IP.

A floating IP window will come up where you can select the IP you WANT to associate and the port/instance you want to associate it with.
Once done, you have an instance launched that is connected and reachable from the internet. CONGRATULATIONS!
